Best Free Graphic Design Tools That Boost Your Online Credibility

The way you dress is the way you will be addressed!

This is the response I always give when asked about the top reason why customers don’t want to pay a premium.

Your brand value starts from the way you present your brand online and that’s why you should pay attention to every little detail including your graphic design.

Each time I teach about small business branding, I greatly emphasize the importance of a visually-appealing graphic design. This can make the difference between whether you are regarded as a premium brand or not and of course, has a direct implication on your bottom line.

In the past, in order to have great graphics, you had to retain the services of a Graphic Designer. Graphic Designers charge a lot and retaining their services 100% of the time is not economical for a small business trying to gain its footing.Technology has changed that and we now have lots of apps for graphic designs that you can create right from your cell phone. Examples of such include photo-collage,

Thankfully, technology has changed that as we now have lots of apps that can be used in creating graphic designs straight from cell phones. Examples of such include Photo-collage, Photogrid, Phonto, Pics Art etc.

While these are acceptable, the graphic quality output is still not befitting for a premium brand.

This was what I struggled with for a while as well until I found these two graphic design site – Canva and then Snappa. These are the best free tools that are simple to use and produce great quality.

I remember when a friend told me Canva and I checked it out, it felt like I struck a pot of gold.  I immediately tried it out and my graphics became 100 times better!  And then when I found Snappa, it helped me improve my graphic designing skills.

Now, I can design appealing images to use across my social media platforms without having to worry about hiring someone that will do that for me.  One less expense for a Blogger like me.

You can create accounts with both Canva and Snappa, however, here’s a short comparison of both which I believe will guide you in making an informed decision.

CANVA

Pros

I started out with Canva and used the free version for a while before I finally made up my mind to opt for the premium version. Here are few reasons why I like Canva:

-Tons of images, templates, and designs to choose from for FREE. When I say free, this is the real definition of free.

-You can build a brand kit for up to four colors. With the free version, you are limited to three colors which are perfect for most people.

-Unlimited number of images, templates and downloads per month even with the free version

Cons

-No video tutorials on how to use it.

SNAPPA

Pros

-It comes with a video tutorial that explains how you can create awesome graphics in less than 2 minutes. This tutorial was a life-saver for me because it gave me insights into how to use features which I couldn’t use on Canva because I didn’t know how and didn’t know anyone that could teach me. I’m thankful I could apply the knowledge I gained from watching the Snapper tutorial to create beautiful designs on Canva.

-Simpler to use in my opinion.

-Slightly cheaper than Canva if you decide to upgrade

Cons

-Limits you to five downloads per month.  This is where Canva beats Snappa hands down!

-Limited templates and images when compared to Canva

Making a decision

Now, you know what both entails and it’s time to make a decision.  The ball is in your court but here’s my recommendation: If you have no foreknowledge of graphic designing, you can start with Snappa. As you get more comfortable and feel at ease, you definitely want to check Canva out so you can start creating branded designs that will help you attract quality customers while also retaining them.
