Dr. Orekunrin was born and raised by foster parents in London, England. She attended Hull York Medical School and graduated at the age of 21 which positioned her as one of the youngest doctors in the United Kingdom. As with every other person on earth, life happened and Dr. Orekunrin experienced the painful passing of her sister. This incident was devastating to her especially because she knew that if her sister had a means of getting to a care center in a timely fashion, the tragedy might have been averted.

After the tragic loss, she had to go through a recovery process during which she started brainstorming on how people can gain access to great healthcare services in a timely fashion. That was how the Flying Doctors was founded.
