What is Instagram Insights?
Instagram Insights is a functionality provided by Instagram (this only applies to Business Pages) that allows you to see how your content and page are performing overall. It helps you understand the types of content that best resonates with your audience and it helps you provide tailored content for your target audience. As an on-point entrepreneur, you want to use Instagram insights so you are not just working for the fun of it but you are working to get results.
How to Access Instagram Insights
In order to access your Instagram Insights, follow the steps below:
- Go to your Business profile
- Click the three little lines in the right-hand corner as shown above
- Click Insights (2nd drop down)
- Once you click insights, you have the option of selecting specific posts, stories or promotions you’d like to view insights on. During this time, you’ll also have the opportunity to learn more about your audience.
How to Collect Data Using Instagram Insights
Instagram Insights provides information using three (3) different metrics. These metrics are: Activity, Content and Audience.
Content metrics gives you information about the performance of your posts, stories and promotions. You have the option of filtering your results based on content type, date range and the type of metric.
It also gives you the opportunity to analyze which posting format works best for your business. For example, if you see that your promoted posts are getting more engagement from your audience on some days then you might want to focus more on promoted posts on those days. Each time people see your posts on Instagram, they take certain types of action. The activity metrics helps you know what type of actions your audience is taking. There are two types – interactions and discovery.
The Interactions section gives you information on:
- Profile visits: the number of times your audience visited your profile
- Website clicks: the number of times your audience clicked your website from your bio area
- Get directions: the number of times your audience clicked on the address you provided in your bio
The Discovery section gives you information on:
- Reach: the number of people who have viewed your posts and stories
- Impressions: the total number of times your posts and stories have been seen
Why is this information important? It’s important because it provides you with insights as to what days and times to post. From the Audience Metrics section, you can learn about the types of followers your business profile attracts. You’ll get information on top cities and countries, age-range and gender. You’ll also see when your followers are most active.
This information is vital to you as a business owner as it helps you create the type of content that your audience will love. Please note that to view demographic metrics like age range and gender, you must have at least 100 followers.
